memo: feed your farmer

Feed Your Farmer

Take the opportunity to say “thanks”

hello@twosistersfarms.ca

Every year, farmers work tirelessly to feed our community. By the fall, they are pretty exhausted and Farm Hands are preparing to end their work season.

As experienced Farm Hands, and now as Farm Owners, we often hear from Farmer’s Market, Farm Stand, and CSA customers that they wish to give thanks.

This is where our event comes in. Feed Your Farmer is a food-centred, community-building event designed by and for local farmers. We wish to bring Farm Owners and Farm Hands together for a night of connection, celebration, and self-care via a long-table dinner.

With donations from community members, we can host this event! Any additional funds not used to cover operational expenses will be re-invested into the community by donating the money into non-profits focused on supporting small-scale farmers in Canada.

Why give?

  • According to a 2023 report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, "farmers are experiencing declining mental health [with] higher rates of stress, depression, and anxiety compared to the general population. The issue is so pervasive that it has been described as a mental health crisis." In short, farmers need some community and some more love.

  • Farmers feed us, every year. This is one small way to say thanks :)

  • Canada’s farming population is shrinking, reaching a historic low in 2021, according to Statistics Canada. This is one small way to support young farmers in this career path and protect local food security.

"Farmers feed our communal gatherings, but they are often so busy in the field, greenhouse, barn, processing facility or marketplace that they are starved of social connections with their peers. At the National Farmers Union, we believe that when farmers come together they grow the relationships needed to advance sustainable agriculture beyond any one farm."

- David Thompson, Executive Director, National Farmers Union
